(一)imagine高考常考词汇之一,其主要用法如下:

1.作“想象,设想”讲

(1)跟名词作宾语

(一)alone/lonely

e意为:by oneself,without others,可作表语和宾补,不带感情色彩。

e.g.I happened to be alone in the room.

我碰巧一个人在屋里。

When the baby woke up,he found himself alone.

这个婴儿醒来时,发现只有他一个人。

说明:(1)alone可作副词。

his wife died,he lived alone.

他妻子去世后,他独自生活。

(2)leave(=let)e句型意为“不去理会,不要去管”等。

Let the dog alone;he'll bite you if you pull its tail.

不要碰它,要是拉尾巴,狗会咬你。

(3)let alone意为“更不用说”。

He can't speak English,let alone write it.

ly是形容词,意为“unhappy because one is away from family or friends(孤独的,寂寞的)”,带有浓厚的感情色彩,表示主观上“孤独、寂寞”,渴望有伴。若指地方,则有“人迹罕至的,荒凉的,偏僻的(not often visited)”意思,可作定语,也可作表语。

k of/about可表示“考虑,想一想”,用about更侧重做事的可行性。

think about the cost.

考虑一下代价吧。

k of/about可表示“对某事物有……看法”。

(三)become,get,come,go,grow,fall,turn,run它们虽然都表示“(从一种状态)变成另一种状态”,但与其相关的搭配却有差别。若不注意,在使用时就会出错。

1.形容词在这类系动词后面作表语

go和come相比,“go+形容词”多表示“(从好的状态)变成坏的状态”,而“come+形容词”则多表示“(从坏的状态)变成好的状态”。

e.g.(1)In hot weather,meat goes bad.

热天,肉会变坏。

(2)Things will come right in the end.

形势最终会变好的。

系动词go后面的表语为mad,crazy,blind,lame或表示颜色的形容词时,go前面的主语一般为人。

e.g.(1)He went mad last year.

去年他疯了。

(2)Hearing this,she went red.

听到这个,她脸红了。

系动词run后面接short,dry,low,deep等形容词作表语时,其前的主语多为能流动的或能消耗掉的东西。

e.g.(1)Their money was running short.

他们的钱就要用完了。

(2)Still water runs deep.

水仍旧很深。

系动词run后面接形容词wild作表语时,run的主语可以是人。

children run wild.

孩子们变得任性。

系动词grow后面可以接表示人或物的特征的静态形容词作表语,也可以接表示天气的形容词作表语。它侧重于“逐渐变成某种状态”。

e.g.(1)The girl grew thinner and thinner.

这个女孩越来越瘦了。

(2)Soon the sky grew dark.

天很快变黑了。

系动词turn后面多接表示颜色的形容词作表语,也可以接表示天气的形容词作表语。意思上侧重于“变得与以前完全不同”。

man turned blue with fear.

那个男人因害怕而脸发青。

The weather suddenly turned much colder.

天气突然变得冷多了。

系动词fall后面可以接asleep,silent等静态形容词或表示疾病的形容词作表语,但不能接形容词的比较级作表语。

“get+形容词”多用在口语中。get能替代become,但become较为正式。get与become前面的主语既可以是人也可以是物。

became/got angry with his son.

他生他儿子的气。

His coat has become/got badly torn.

get经常与形容词的比较级连用。

冬至过后,天变得越来越长。

注意:系动词become一般不可用来表示“将来变得……”的意思。

2.系动词become,turn,get,go,fall后面能跟名词作表语,其他的“变成”类系动词后面不能跟名词作表语。

Her cheeks went a very pretty pink.

她的脸颊变得绯红。

注意:在turn后面作表语用的名词前通常不带冠词。

和go后面多接有否定前缀的过去分词。“get+过去分词”表示一次行为;“become+过去分词“表示事物发展的最后结果。

5.系动词come,grow,get后面接不定式,表示变化过程。come表示“最终变得”;get表示“由……变得”;grow表示“渐渐变得”。

(四)sometime,some time,sometimes,some times

time是副词,意为“在某个不确定的时间”,“在某个时候”,“某时”,可以同将来时连用,也可以同过去时连用。

time是名词词组,意为“一段时间”,作时间状语用;也可用作副词词组,用来指一个未肯定的时刻,常指将来,此时,可与sometime通用。

e.g.I'll stay here for some time.

They'll visit China some time next year.

明年的某个时候,他们将访问中国。

times是频度副词,意为“有时,不时”,常与一般现在时或一般过去时连用。

times he goes to school by bus,sometimes he goes by bike.

有时他乘公共汽车上学,有时骑自行车上学。

times是名词词组,意为“几次,几倍”。

e.g.I met him some times in the street last month.

上月我在街上遇到他几次。

The factory is some times larger than that one.

这个工厂比那个工厂大几倍。

number of visitors are very large this year.

简析:are→is。因为在“the number of+名词复数”时,中心词是“number”,而在“a number of+名词复数”中,中心词才是名词复数。

population in China are very large,but 80% of that are farmers.

简析:第一个are改为is。population一词作为主语时,谓语动词用单数;但其百分比作主语时,谓语动词要用复数。

doctor's are on the side of the street.

简析:are→is。?
